...And Then We Split Up...

Anonymous Curious Pixie #716 · General Confessions

I guess this is my confession now that it's all over. I was married for about six years to someone who I thought understood everything about me. But the truth? It just wasn't enough anymore, you know? There were so many times when I felt like a small child again in his arms, but I needed more than that. Needed guidance and structure, not just cuddles...but we both wanted different things. We tried to make it work with our little-space dynamic. It was fun at first...playing pretend and feeling safe under the rule of someone who loved me deeply. But over time, my needs shifted. I began craving more responsibility in that relationship as well, wanted to be a caregiver sometimes too. A partner, not just a child or submissive. He never really understood that, though. Ellipses are all over this confession because every moment after those discussions felt empty and unfulfilled... We tried couples therapy, role-playing different scenarios, but nothing quite clicked anymore. It's heartbreaking to think about all the laughter and affection we shared, and how it ended up dissolving into something so distant and cold. In the end, he couldn't handle my need for more balance within our dynamic. He needed me to remain his little forever...and I needed him to see past that façade sometimes too. There's a part of me still hurting because we both loved each other, but in such different ways... So here I am now, a recently divorced person who misses their ex and wonders where things went wrong. I wanted us to explore together and grow with one another...but it was hard when he couldn't step outside the comfort zone too.
