A Moment of Weakness
Anonymous Candy Bean #104 · General Confessions
I've always prided myself on being a disciplined individual, both in my personal life and as an educator. So when I found myself sneaking into the kitchen to indulge in a midnight snack that was explicitly off-limits during my latest diet regime, it felt like such a betrayal of all my self-imposed rules. It wasn't even something particularly unhealthy, just a small bag of chocolate-covered almonds that had been sitting there for days, teasing me with its mere presence. I didn't just reach into the cupboard and grab them, though, I stood outside the kitchen door, arguing internally about whether I deserved this indulgence after weeks of strict adherence to my diet. Then, as if channeling one of my naughty students, I whispered back to myself in a sly voice that rules are meant to be broken occasionally. Afterwards, lying awake with a full tummy and guilty conscience, it hit me: even adults who have mastered so much can still succumb to the temptation of a fleeting pleasure. It's okay not to be perfect all the time.
