Confessions of an Unexpected Kinkster

Anonymous Bratty Plum #112 · General Confessions

I've been teaching college-level literature for almost twenty years now and thought I had pretty much figured out my limits when it came to personal boundaries and unconventional relationships. But here we are, and last month I finally admitted to myself that there's this weird little kink in the back of my mind that pops up more often than you'd think. It started a couple of years ago during one of those late-night conversations with a particularly bright student who was exploring her own sexuality. She mentioned something about her fantasy involving an older authority figure, which at the time I thought was just her way of fantasizing about what I might represent to her as her professor, mentorship and guidance beyond just classroom stuff. Fast forward to last month, during a particularly heated debate in class about modern versus classic literature (I know, I know), one of my students made an offhand comment that got under my skin more than it should have. The next day, while grading papers, the memory of his sharp wit and the way he carried himself with such confidence suddenly had me thinking... well, let's just say my imagination took a very unexpected turn. This wasn't like any other fantasy I've ever admitted to having before. Usually, it involves something light-hearted or playful, nothing too serious, maybe role-playing as students trying to teach each other Shakespeare or something equally silly and innocent. But this new one felt different; it was about power dynamics in a way that made me squirm with both discomfort and curiosity. I haven't acted on any of these thoughts, I’m not about to start hitting on my students or crossing professional boundaries like that! It's just interesting how the brain works sometimes, isn’t it? This newfound awareness has me questioning everything from why certain dynamics appeal to me in fiction (like novels or films) to what it might mean for my personal relationships outside of academia. So here I am, finally admitting this kink to myself and maybe getting it off my chest. It’s not like there's an answer sheet out there with all the right ways one can explore their sexuality, but hey, at least now I don't feel quite so strange about it.
