Breaking My Own Rules Isn't Just a Slip-Up, It's a Lesson in Self-Control

I've been in this caregiving dynamic with my partner for about two years now. We started off as just a casual relationship, but once we began exploring the idea of DDLG, it really brought us closer together in an entirely new way. I took on the role of the caregiver, and while we never officially labeled ourselves 'Daddy' and 'Little,' I like to think of myself more as a supportive figure than anything else. In this setup, one rule that is absolutely non-negotiable for me is about health and wellness. As someone who works in fitness training, it's not just something I do professionally but also personally, everything from meal prep to exercise regimens is about maintaining that balance of strength and discipline. And when my partner decided to embark on a new diet plan with me as her accountability coach, we both agreed that no exceptions would be made. We've been following this regimen religiously for the last month or so. The meals are healthy, the workouts are consistent, it's all about showing up and doing what needs to be done to achieve our goals together. But I'm human, you know? I slipped up a bit last night when we were at home. We'd had a busy day, packed full of training sessions and classes for both of us. My partner suggested ordering in some food, something quick and easy. It was tempting, the idea that maybe just once it wouldn't matter so much because we could 'make up' for it later with extra exercise or cutting back somewhere else. I know better than this, really I do. But sometimes these moments happen, especially after a long day where everything feels like an obligation and there's little room left over for treats or indulgences. So I gave in, just a bit, not anything extreme, but enough that it was clear I wasn't sticking to our plan. The guilt hit me hard afterwards. It’s one thing to break your own personal rules when you're alone, but breaking them within the context of this dynamic? It felt like letting her down, and myself too. So here's my confession: last night, we both ate a meal that didn't fit our strict diet plan. We'll move forward from it, learn something from it, but acknowledging it was necessary. I’m proud of how much control I usually maintain over these things, even in this dynamic where I have more freedom than 'rules' to follow. But admitting when you slip up is just as important as sticking to the rules.
