A Moment of Weakness

Anonymous Fuzzy Kitten #746 · General Confessions

I’m a freelancer who works from home and have this habit of feeling like I need to live up to an ideal that isn’t really mine. One day, my dom had given me specific instructions not to start work until after lunch, claiming it would boost productivity for the rest of the day. But you know how it is, there’s a looming deadline and suddenly your brain convinces you there’s no time like the present to just dive in. So I did what I often do; I ignored his rules for my own comfort. I started working earlier than planned, feeling this rush of self-imposed urgency, thinking 'it won’t hurt anything.' But then came lunchtime and with it, a wave of guilt washed over me. It was like the calm after the storm, sitting there staring at my untouched sandwich and remembering how badly I’d just broken my word to someone who trusts me completely. The physical sensation of sitting alone at my desk while the world around me paused for mealtime added layers to that familiar feeling: disappointment in myself, a nagging ache under all that productivity, and the cold realization that sometimes it’s not about the work but about respecting boundaries set by another person.
