Forgot My Medicine Again

Anonymous Curious Peach #516 · General Confessions

So I work at this little coffee shop and yeah, it's pretty chill. I have a regular named Alex who comes in every day around 9 AM when the place is just starting to pick up after a quiet morning. We always joke about how we need to set alarms or something because we've both missed appointments or meetings more than once since we started hanging out here. Anyway, one week, I was feeling pretty down and tired for a while, so Alex suggested that I get some prescription medicine from my doctor. He's really sweet like that, always checking in on me. So I did, but the problem is remembering to take it! It's a tiny little pill and I'm just not good at staying on top of things like this. Last Thursday morning, we were talking about how stressful life can be, especially after all this crazy year-and-a-half we've had. Alex was teasing me because I was late coming in with my coffee, saying I must have slept through the alarm again. And that's when it hit me: I hadn't taken my medicine since Tuesday. That's two whole days! I felt terrible about forgetting something so important and let him know right then and there. We've had a running joke that he's like a big brother to me or something, always looking out for me, but this time it was different. It wasn't just friendly concern; it felt more serious somehow. I ended up taking my medicine right in the shop before going about my day. And when I got home, Alex sent over an emoji of him giving me a pat on the back and telling me to take better care of myself. It was such a tiny thing but it made all the difference in the world. It's not like we're in some kind of official DDLG arrangement or anything, just two people who know each other pretty well and look out for one another. But man, having that moment where he reminded me to take care of myself? That's a big deal for me.
