confused bartender looking for guidance

i have been working as a bartender for like 6 months now and recently started exploring bdsm stuff with my partner. we've been together for about a year but never talked about this kinda thing until recently. i found out he likes the daddy kink which is something totally new to me, like completely new. so we tried it out once and i was actually kind of into it too, but now im feeling all kinds of weird. im not sure if im being a good partner or doing something wrong. my friend said maybe its normal for people to discover stuff later in their relationships but i feel like everyone else knows what they want right away and we're just late to the party. do you guys think its okay to try new things even when youve been together for a while? how do you know if hes into it for real or because of some weird phase? im so confused
