Little Me Made a Mess
Anonymous Giggly Marshmallow #806 · General Confessions
I had this moment with my little the other day that felt so real and intimate. We were in the kitchen baking together, it's one of our favorite activities, even though we both know I'm supposed to handle all the mess. She insisted on making a batch of cookies, her eyes wide with excitement at being allowed near the stove. But you know how kids can be when they're excited? Well, not my little... she’s an adult too, but in that moment, she was so caught up in the joy of it all, and I let her take over. She poured flour generously into the bowl without the measuring cup, then sprinkled sugar all around the counter. It looked like a snowstorm indoors! She made such a mess, just laughing and clapping her hands, completely absorbed in the moment. And as she mixed in egg after egg and vanilla extract, batter splattered across the walls and cabinets. When it was time to clean up, I couldn't help but feel a tinge of disappointment for not reigning her in sooner. But honestly? Seeing that joy on her face made every speck of flour worth it. The kitchen was a disaster zone by the end, but as we cleaned together, me gently chiding and her giggling, then cleaning eagerly, I felt this deep connection. It's funny how something so small can feel like such a big deal in our dynamic.
