Anonymous Snuggly Cub #122 · General Confessions

I've been teaching for decades now, but it wasn't until recently that I found myself questioning everything about my life. You see, last year, during one of those summer workshops where everyone's on edge and the lines between professional and personal start to blur, something happened that has left me breathless ever since. It started as a playful joke at first, the kind you make in jest with someone who seems just a little too eager to please. She was new, bright-eyed, ambitious, all of those traits I thought would keep her on the straight and narrow path she'd laid out for herself. But then one night after hours, when we were discussing a difficult concept over coffee, she suddenly looked at me with an intensity that made my heart race. And in that moment, against every grain of professional conduct, I found myself drawn into her world, a place where the student and teacher roles blurred into something more ambiguous, more intimate. It was exhilarating yet terrifying, much like flying without a net, unsure if you'll crash or soar. I've never been one for such risky behavior, but that night changed everything. And now, weeks later, as summer fades and reality sets in, I'm still trying to make sense of it all. The memory is as vivid today as it was then, the way she looked up at me with those eager eyes, the way our hands brushed accidentally against a warm cup... It's both exhilarating and exhausting, this dance we've found ourselves in. And now, as I sit here writing this confession, I'm reminded of just how far from my comfort zone I ventured that night.
