My Daydreams of Dominance at Work

Anonymous Dizzy Petal #444 · General Confessions

I'm a mommy, working retail in a busy store. My kids are grown now but sometimes I catch myself daydreaming about being the one who calls the shots in more ways than just with my own family. It's like this underlying desire to be in charge, not over my customers or colleagues of course, but somewhere inside me there's this nagging need for control and discipline that doesn't have anything to do with work ethics or job responsibilities. The fantasies start when I'm stressed from dealing with difficult shoppers or overwhelmed by the daily grind. A part of me longs to be able to put things in order, impose strict rules, maybe even give a stern lecture or punish someone who's out of line, and not just metaphorically speaking. There’s something thrilling about imagining myself as that authoritative figure who knows exactly how everything should be done. I'm curious if anyone else experiences this kind of fantasy at work? Is it normal to have these desires for control and discipline outside the realm of parenting or personal relationships? I’m not looking to act on them, but they sure are frequent.
