The Unspoken Dynamic Between Us
Anonymous Peachy Duckling #485 · General Confessions
I’ve been married to my husband for nearly two decades now. We have two grown children who are starting their own lives and moving out of the house we raised them in. Our marriage has always been stable, but recently I found myself exploring a dynamic with him that felt both new and unsettlingly familiar. It started as a playful joke at first, him calling me 'Mommy' and me teasing him back about it. As the weeks went by, though, those terms began to take on a life of their own in our relationship. I started dressing up in slightly more conservative clothing that reminded him of when he was younger, and he responded with an almost childlike demeanor at times. We never spoke directly about it, there were no formal rules set down or any serious conversations about what this dynamic meant for us as a couple. It just... happened organically between the two of us as we adjusted to our new empty-nester status. But it became clear that he found comfort in being 'taken care of' again, and I enjoyed providing that sense of security. The turning point came during one of these sessions when my husband seemed particularly vulnerable and eager for my guidance. It felt almost like a power exchange, but with no harshness or strict control involved, just mutual understanding and respect as we navigated this unspoken territory together. I am not asking if I did the right thing here; it's merely an observation of where our relationship has gone and how it feels to be both nurturing and nurtured in ways that extend beyond typical marital roles. There are no regrets, but there is also a sense of curiosity about what lies ahead as we continue this journey together.
