A Little Lie at Work

Anonymous Cherry Petal #692 · General Confessions

I hate lying, but sometimes it seems like the easiest way out. This week has been unbearably slow in my office job, and I’ve had more free time than I know what to do with. My boss specifically told us that we’re not allowed to use our phones while working, except during lunch breaks. But today was one of those days when there’s nothing pressing to do, and I couldn’t help but think about how relaxing it would be if I just scrolled through my social media feed for a bit. So, I did it, once or twice a day, only for short intervals, I told myself. By the end of the week, though, I was starting to feel really guilty. Part of me kept thinking maybe everyone does this kind of thing under the radar and no one cares that much, but deep down, I know my boss wouldn’t appreciate it if she found out. It’s like when you’re a kid who takes cookies before dinner and hopes your parents won’t notice, they probably will eventually, right? And then there's the worry about what happens next, will I get in trouble, or worse, will this lead to me feeling more okay with sneaking around behind everyone else's backs? It’s silly how something so small can make you feel like such a kid who just doesn’t want to face consequences.
