... A Small Slip ...

I'm an artist in my mid-thirties and have been practicing DDLG with my partner for a few years now. We both find it incredibly rewarding, and I take on the role of Mommy while he is Little, something we're both very comfortable with. Our dynamic is built around trust, love, and respect, but even in such a positive environment, small slips can still happen. We have rules, as any DDLG relationship does, and one that's particularly important to us is about doing chores on time. It's not just about keeping the house clean; it’s part of our dynamic where I take care of him, making sure he contributes and feels responsible. One morning last week... well, let me back up a bit. Little has a routine for doing his chores before leaving for work, sweeping, taking out trash, wiping down counters. It's something we both agree on because it works with our schedules. Last Tuesday, he told me about an important project at work that was due the next day and said he was going to be super busy all week. I understood and felt a little sorry for him, I know those deadlines can be grueling. But still... we agreed on the routine. And despite my empathy, I knew how Little felt when I slipped up about chores in the past; it's part of our dynamic, and he needs that structure and consistency as much as I do. That Tuesday morning came around, and instead of tackling his chores, Little was off to work early. By Wednesday evening, though, I realized... I hadn't done any chores either. I'd been so caught up in my own projects and taking care of him... that everything started piling up around the house. When he got home, everything looked a mess. And you know how Little is about order, his little face was set in that look of concern and anxiety. We talked it over calmly, but I could see the guilt building in his eyes; I knew how much this meant to him. So much so... that part of me felt like a child who had disappointed their parent. I took responsibility for my actions immediately, not making excuses or shifting blame onto Little. I apologized and made it clear I would take care of everything that night and the next morning too. We both agreed to re-evaluate our routine together because this was an issue on both sides... ...it’s a small thing in many ways, but as someone who's usually so structured, breaking this rule, even for good reasons like supporting him at work, felt huge. It still nags at me sometimes, and it's just one of those little reminders that no matter how established our dynamic is, we can both slip up. ...
