Just Another Day of Caregiving?
Anonymous Whispering Fawn #456 · General Confessions
So I'm this grad student who just started taking care of an older guy with dementia. We don't have any fancy labels or anything, but he's always making these offbeat requests and pushing boundaries in ways that are both bizarre and oddly flattering. Last night, he wanted me to act like his kid again, which meant dressing up in this ridiculous costume and following some childish rules. It was embarrassing yet oddly comforting. At first, I felt like a fraud, but then the role played into my head, and it was surprisingly satisfying to be that person for him, someone he could rely on and trust implicitly. Now everyone's talking about how great it feels to let go every once in a while. Here endeth the lesson.
