Confession of a Teacher's Double Life

Anonymous Sleepy Petal #910 · General Confessions

I'm thirty-two years old and have been teaching high school English for over seven years. On paper, I'm the picture-perfect educator and single mom figure, a stable income, weekends off, summers free to read books and travel alone when it suits me. Yet, there’s another side of me that has nothing to do with chalkboards or essays. Occasionally, I indulge in DDLG scenarios, switching between playing the role of an adult caregiver and sometimes adopting the persona of a young child seeking guidance and discipline from someone wiser and more experienced. A few weeks ago, my coworker Mike invited me to his place for drinks after work one Friday night. After a few beers and playful banter about our mutual interest in DDLG role-play, he suggested we try something different this time: he would be the caring parent figure, while I took on the character of an eight-year-old girl named Lily needing some direction in her life. The idea intrigued me, so we proceeded with a safe word and clear boundaries set beforehand. What happened next felt both liberating and somewhat foreign to my professional persona. Mike's guidance was strict but gentle, something that seemed like it could apply to the classroom setting as well, albeit never in such an explicit manner there. Reflecting on this experience, I found myself questioning if the dynamics between a teacher and student could be viewed through the lens of DDLG role-play without crossing ethical boundaries. Does anyone else out there see parallels here? Am I overthinking this, or does engaging in these kinds of activities truly influence how one approaches their professional life? Your thoughts would mean a lot to me.
